Central Cee is speaking candidly about wealth in the music industry, and he didn’t hesitate to name the one artist who makes him realize just how massive the financial gap can be at the top. While talking with Instagram channel Rambo Is Talking, the U.K. rapper was asked whether anyone in the game had ever made him feel broke, and he immediately pointed to Drake as the only person who created that feeling for him.
“I feel like it’s good to stay around people like that,” he explained, saying that being surrounded by major earners pushes him to elevate. “I stay around people like that…[but] I can’t lie, obviously around Drake I feel like a little fish.” The interviewer followed up by asking whether Central Cee believed he could ever catch up to The Boy financially. His answer was direct. “He’s gone,” he said, adding that once people reach Drake’s level of wealth, they often “own hospitals” and are involved in so many ventures that it becomes impossible for anyone behind them to match it.
Still, the gap in wealth hasn’t stopped the two artists from working together. This summer, they teamed up for “Which One,” a collaboration that became a major achievement for Central Cee. The record earned him his first-ever No. 1 on both the Rap Airplay and Rhythmic Airplay charts, marking a new moment of global visibility for the London rapper.
Central Cee has kept the momentum going. He recently headlined Rolling Loud’s debut festival in India, performing in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai and shutting down the opening night. At the same time, Rolling Loud co-founder Tariq Cherif revealed on a livestream with Adin Ross and DJ Akademiks just how much they want Drake to perform. “I send an offer to Drake every year,” he said. “We send him our max offer, millions of dollars.” Despite that, Drake has never taken the stage at a Rolling Loud event.
