Nicki Minaj is facing a renewed legal challenge as former fan Tameer Peak has refiled a defamation lawsuit in New York. Peak claims that during a 2024 Stationhead live broadcast, Minaj publicly humiliated him. Allegedly, she called him “one sandwich short of a picnic” and suggested he relied on government assistance. If upheld, these statements could be considered damaging to his reputation.

The lawsuit was originally filed in New Jersey but dismissed early, prompting Peak to pursue the case in New York. The refiling comes as Minaj now navigates the proceedings without her longtime attorney, Judd Burstein. Reports indicate that Burstein’s sudden withdrawal has left Minaj seeking new legal representation while facing mounting deadlines.

Minaj Requests More Time After Lawyer Abruptly Exits

Her business management firm, the Northstar Group, filed a motion requesting an extension. They seek to allow Minaj sufficient time to retain counsel. “All legal deadlines and motions should be paused,” the filing states. They emphasize that incoming attorneys need time to review the case thoroughly. The firm also noted that Burstein’s departure occurred without prior notification, complicating the unfolding proceedings.

Burstein has offered little explanation for stepping back, saying only that while he successfully secured a dismissal in New Jersey, continuing representation in New York “was not appropriate.” He declined to elaborate further, leaving the circumstances surrounding his decision unclear.

As the case develops, observers will closely follow Minaj’s response and the court’s handling of the lawsuit.
