Master P brought the legacy of No Limit Records back to center stage during ComplexCon’s Verzuz event, where the label went head-to-head with Cash Money Records. The New Orleans legend curated a lineup filled with timeless hits and deep cuts that longtime fans have cherished for decades. Before the event, he sat down with The Laboratory Podcast to talk about how he approached the battle. Around the 42-minute mark, he revealed that his main goal was to connect with the people who built No Limit into what it is today. “I got so many records, I was like, you know what? Instead of just… give me some hits. Give me what the fans want to hear,” he said.
While preparing the setlist, P admitted that choosing which songs to perform wasn’t easy. He reflected on how far No Limit has come, crediting the label for sparking something much bigger than music. “I see so many people with No Limit tattoos on them, TRU tattoos, and it’s like, man, we really did something that touched people,” he said. “Because they know we young Black men that wanted something out of life and went and did it.”
Master P also explained that the Verzuz wasn’t about rivalry, but about uplifting others. He described it as a “celebration” meant to inspire youth to follow their goals. “I want to show other people’s sons and daughters that, ‘Look what we doing and we all could make some money. We all could be successful. We just got to have integrity and do the right thing. And don’t be afraid to grow up,’” he shared.
The event drew star power from both camps. No Limit brought Snoop Dogg, Mia X, and Silk the Shocker, while Cash Money featured B.G., Mannie Fresh, Juvenile, and Birdman. LeBron James crowned Mia X the night’s MVP, and now Master P is channeling that energy into his next project—a new album and documentary titled No Limit 5K Mix: Lost Tapes.
