Kelis has made a bold move with her three children, trading the U.S. for farm life in Kenya. The “Milkshake” singer recently shared a series of Instagram videos giving followers a look at her family’s transition to East Africa, revealing both the excitement and the real-world adjustments of living abroad.

In her posts, Kelis praised the country’s vibrant landscape, abundant wildlife, and rising infrastructure. “You see it’s progressing,” she said, pointing to modern conveniences like Amazon and Uber that make everyday life smoother. “There’s just a lot of stuff happening all the time so it just makes it livable.” She also underscored the warmth of the community she’s found there. “The people here are really friendly, they’re just good people,” Kelis shared, reflecting on the hospitality her family has experienced.

At the same time, she gave an honest account of the hurdles that come from setting up life in rural Kenya. She noted issues like rough terrain, seasonal flooding due to poor drainage, and limited waste-management resources. “If you want to live here like an American, it’s definitely going to cost you triple the price,” Kelis cautioned, particularly for those trying to maintain a familiar Western standard of living. Though she mentioned she’s still working on securing health insurance, she expressed confidence in the Kenyan medical system and the people behind it.

In addition to embracing a simpler, more sustainable lifestyle, Kelis has expanded her goals to include entrepreneurship and education, highlighted by her purchase of 150 to 300 acres of farmland in rural Kenya. She described the region as offering “kind of the best of all the world” where she can enjoy both countryside and city life. Through all of this, one thing remains clear: Kelis is carving out a fresh chapter rooted in family, growth, and rediscovery.
