Hulu has unveiled the official trailer for a new documentary titled “Hip-Hop and the White House,” marking writer and filmmaker Jesse Washington’s directorial debut. This documentary, slated for release on Hulu next week, delves into hip-hop’s transformation from an overlooked urban culture to a significant mainstream force, exploring its intersections with presidential politics and policies from the 1970s to the present day, highlighting the evolution of rap politics.
“We believe this is the ideal moment to examine how hip-hop has influenced presidential politics and to contemplate what impact the culture might have in the upcoming election season,” remarked Washington, drawing from the insights of Andscape’s team of acclaimed journalists. The film, narrated by Atlanta’s Jeezy, features interviews with influential figures such as Common, YG, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, KRS-One, Roxanne Shante, Bun B, Bakari Kitwana, and others.
