Eminem and N.W.A are two of the 26 nominees for the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF), though only six of these nominees will ultimately be inducted. For eligibility, songwriters must wait 20 years after the release of their first major commercial track. The official induction ceremony will take place at the SHOF’s Induction & Awards Gala on June 12th, 2025, in New York City.

To highlight each nominee’s work, the SHOF shared five signature tracks from each artist’s catalog, clarifying that these songs represent just a small portion of their overall achievements. Eminem’s featured tracks include “Lose Yourself,” “Stan,” “Mockingbird,” “Houdini,” and “Rap God.” N.W.A’s iconic songs listed are “Express Yourself,” “Dopeman,” “Fuck Tha Police,” “Gangsta Gangsta,” and “Straight Outta Compton.”

In addition to Eminem and N.W.A, other notable nominees include Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins and Janet Jackson. Voting by eligible members will remain open until midnight ET on December 22nd.

N.W.A’s nomination follows a recent Lifetime Achievement Award from the 2024 Grammys, part of the Special Merit Awards, which recognize artists who have made “significant contributions, other than performance, to the field of recording,” as noted by the Recording Academy. This honor places N.W.A alongside hip-hop legends Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, and Salt-N-Pepa, all of whom received similar awards in the past eight years. Notably, the award also honored N.W.A’s late member, Eazy-E, posthumously, alongside iconic figures like Donna Summer and Tammy Wynette.
