Cardi B is now facing a civil lawsuit over a 2023 incident in Las Vegas, despite being cleared of criminal wrongdoing last year.
The case stems from a viral moment during a summer performance when the rapper hurled a microphone into the crowd after a concertgoer threw a drink at her on stage. At the time, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the incident but found insufficient evidence to move forward with charges. The matter never reached the district attorney’s office.
More than a year later, the alleged victim has filed a civil suit claiming assault, battery, and negligence. The plaintiff alleges that the microphone caused physical and emotional harm and that its later auction for charity added to her psychological distress.
Cardi B’s legal team has responded with sharp criticism, dismissing the case as an opportunistic ploy. “This is a transparent and pitiful attempt at a financial shakedown,” attorney Drew Findling told TMZ Hip Hop.
He credited the decision by local authorities to drop the case as a clear indication of its lack of merit. “Apparently, the opportunity to make money off a celebrity was too tempting for some law firm to pass up.”
The microphone, which fetched tens of thousands at auction, was widely seen as a quirky souvenir rather than evidence in a criminal case. Cardi has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, but sources close to her camp suggest they intend to fight the allegations aggressively.
As the rapper continues work on the long-delayed follow-up to her Grammy-winning debut Invasion of Privacy, the lawsuit emerges as an unwelcome interruption. Still, Cardi has built a career in the spotlight that includes frequent controversy—and consistent resilience.
Whether this case gains traction remains to be seen, but her team views it as a closed chapter being opportunistically reopened.
