Busta Rhymes is being sued by his former assistant, Dashiel Gables, who claims the rapper assaulted him and failed to pay him properly during his time of employment. Gables is expected to detail the accusations during a press conference in Brooklyn’s Columbus Park on Thursday, where he’ll allege emotional harm, wage theft, and physical abuse.
The situation stems from an altercation earlier this year. Back in January, police questioned Busta after a reported dispute between the two men, though no charges were filed at the time.
Now, months later, Gables is taking legal action. Busta Rhymes is denying everything and says Gables is attempting to smear his name after being let go. In a statement to TMZ Hip Hop, Busta said, “I have been made aware of the claims made by Dashiel Gables, and I completely and categorically deny these allegations. For a very brief period, Dashiel assisted me, but it did not work out. Apparently, Dashiel has decided to respond to being let go by manufacturing claims against me in an attempt to attack and damage my reputation.”
The lawsuit is emerging just as Busta Rhymes is experiencing a wave of success. He recently earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, finished filming The Naked Gun reboot with Liam Neeson, and is gearing up to release a new album.
Despite the timing, Busta is standing firm. He plans to countersue, saying, “I look forward to proving these allegations false and am preparing a countersuit which I am confident will expose this for what it is, an attempted shake-down by a disgruntled former assistant. Ultimately, I am certain the truth will prevail.”
As the press conference approaches, this legal battle is just getting started.
