This was an IG Live battle that hip hop fans couldn’t wait for!
RZA and DJ Premier faced off hit for hit during the Verzuz series, put together by super producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.
The battle lasted about three hours last night (April 11). Premier played joints like Jay-Z’s “A Million” and “One Question,” while RZA played started with GZA’s “Liquid Swords” and Method Man’s “Bring The Pain.”
The hits continued! Preemo played Mos Def’s “Mathematics” and RZA, Cappadonna’s “Maria.” Then RZA played classics like Method Man’s “Wu-Tang Clan,” Ghostface “Motherless Child,” Raekwon’s “Verbal Intercourse.” Premier played classics like “Nas Is Like” by Nas, and Hov’s “D’Evils.
Things were going so well, there was an “overtime” round. They played joints like “C.R.E.A.M,” and “Ten Crack Commandments.
RZA also played a clip of an unreleased Joey Badass song.
During an interview with Complex, RZA said Swizz reached out to him to set it up. “People could take it as a fight, a battle, whatever they want, but it’s more about us celebrating the culture of hip-hop. I’m a big fan of DJ Premier.”
RZA went on to say that he’s happy that he’s still here as an “icon” and a “foundation of hip hop.”
Take a look at what you missed + who do YOU think won? Fans say it was a tie.
