America. The land of the free. Home of the brave. And a country where “you can’t stand the rain” and sing your hook backwards.

It has been a rough week in this country as the conversation surrounding hate and racism surrounds our television screens and kitchen tables (do people even use those anymore?).

Multiple parks, schools, and establishments are getting rid of their statues from the Confederate era due to its symbolism of hate, and the message it sends to the now integrated portion of this America.

So what should we replace them with?

In Virginia, they want to replace a controversial Confederate monument with none of that Missy Elliott.

It all began when Nathan Coflin of Portsmouth, Virginia filed a petition on change.org. He said in the petition:

Together we can put white supremacy down, flip it and reverse it. Let us come together in getting City Council to erect this statue in honor of Missy Elliott and all those in the great City of Portsmouth who work it each and every day. Ycamerpus Etihw!

Of course the Grammy award winning artist was borning in Portsmouth, and brings a lot more positive symbol to the city.

So far, as of publishing it has over 23,000 signatures and counting.

The only question now is, what era do you make this statue from?

She responded with appreciation
