Lil Yachty doesn’t flinch when Eminem sends a bar his way, he celebrates it. While most artists might tense up at the idea of being singled out by one of hip-hop’s most feared lyricists, Yachty treats it like an achievement. The moment dates back to 2018, when Eminem unleashed “The Ringer” and dropped the now-famous line: “Get this f****n’ audio out my Audi yo, adios/ I can see why people like Lil’ Yachty, but not me though/ Not even dissin’, it just ain’t for me/ All I am simply is just an emcee.”

Years later, Yachty finally opened up about how he processed hearing his name come out of Eminem’s mouth, and the reaction wasn’t what anyone expected. During an appearance on Tea Time W/ Raven & Miranda earlier this month, he admitted he felt nothing but excitement. “Eminem actually dissed me, but I thought it was amazing. If you say my name, it’s like, you could’ve said anyone’s name,” he explained, still amused by the moment. Yachty laughed as he recalled his genuine surprise, adding, “So, you’re saying my name? I’m like, ‘That’s kinda fire.’ I was like, ‘You could’ve said anybody and you said me?’ Am I the top of the nobodies? I wasn’t mad at it all, I was like, ‘Fire!’ I’ll take it any day of the week.”

His reaction fits the unbothered, playful attitude that defined the early stretch of his career. Coming up as one of the standout voices of the SoundCloud era, Yachty faced plenty of criticism, labeled everything from “bubblegum trap” to “mumble rap.” None of it slowed him down, though, and Em’s jab became just another moment he used to fuel his momentum rather than derail it.

What’s wild is that even back in 2018, right as the bar started circulating, Yachty’s response was just as positive. He took to Twitter to let fans know he wasn’t pressed in the slightest, writing, “Lmao me personally I think it’s fye Eminem took a shot at me.. I f**k wit Eminem,” according to HotNewHipHop. For him, being mentioned by a legend was a form of recognition, even if it came with a sting.
