Mike Tyson still has a desire to fight Jake Paul again as he prepares for a high-profile boxing match against Floyd Mayweather.
In a new interview with Hard Rock Bet‘s Joe Hewlett, Tyson says he is entering the next phase of his comeback with renewed confidence and a sharper understanding of how to prepare his body. Iron Mike took a moment to detail his performance against The Problem Child in 2024 and his expectations in the upcoming exhibition with Money Mayweather.
Tyson’s fight against Paul and the forthcoming fight with Mayweather highlight a memorable comeback for the former heavyweight champion. His recent returns follow decades in retirement. His popularity remains as big as ever in the culture.
Tyson acknowledged he was far from his optimal condition when he faced Paul, revealing that he dealt with undisclosed health issues throughout camp. He said he chose not to reveal those problems before the fight, refusing to frame the performance as anything other than his responsibility.
Tyson added that he pushed himself beyond reasonable limits, training with a level of intensity that mirrored his prime years. He admitted the approach backfired.
“I left a lot of my fight in the gym,” Tyson said, noting that he overworked himself and entered the ring drained. “I was too intense; was too extreme. Need to relax more.”
Mike Tyson Wants Jake Paul Rematch & Knockout Floyd Mayweather
Despite those setbacks, Tyson said he feels stronger and more prepared now than he did before facing Paul. He described each recent camp as a learning experience, helping him adapt to the demands of competing at nearly 60 years old.
“I’m getting more and more confident, and I believe I’ll be better in the next fight coming up,” Tyson said.
Iron Mike added that he expects a rematch with Paul to be a possibility after his next bout. When asked to evaluate Paul’s in-ring presence, Tyson said, “He did well, but I want to try it again.”
The conversation then turned to Mayweather, whom Tyson is expected to face in early 2026. Tyson offered a blunt prediction on how the fight might end.
“It looks like he’s going to get knocked out,” Tyson said.
He emphasized that the matchup materialized at Mayweather’s request, saying, “I have no idea, Floyd wanted to fight me.”
Tyson also said their relationship remains neutral, with no personal tension guiding the build-up. As for timing, Tyson estimated the fight could take place in March or April.
Until then, Tyson says his focus is on training smarter and maintaining his health. He’s proving that he still has the power to compete on a major stage.
