Diddy remains behind bars as he awaits sentencing in his federal criminal case, but one of his many legal troubles has been cleared. A New York judge has dismissed a civil lawsuit filed earlier this year by a man who claimed the music mogul drugged and assaulted him a decade ago.

The plaintiff, identified only as John Doe, alleged that in 2015 he was a 23-year-old artist performing at a Los Angeles nightclub where Diddy was present. He said he was given a drink that caused him to black out and later regained consciousness to find Diddy making “unwanted sexual contact” with him. The complaint, brought forward by attorney Tony Buzbee, also claimed that Diddy warned him that his music career would suffer if he pushed back against the advances.

According to TMZ, the judge ruled that the claims were filed too late under New York law. At the time of the alleged incident, the statute of limitations was five years. Although the state later expanded that period to twenty years in 2019, the court stated that the change cannot be applied retroactively. Because of this, the lawsuit was barred.

The filing also attempted to hold Diddy’s companies, Bad Boy Entertainment and Combs Enterprises, responsible, but those claims were dismissed as well. This ruling marks another legal win for Diddy in recent weeks, as several other cases have also been dropped. Still, he continues to face a large number of active lawsuits across the country.

Even with this victory, Diddy’s future remains uncertain. His attention is now fixed on October 3, when a judge will determine his sentence in the ongoing federal criminal matter. The decision on that day will carry far greater weight than the dismissal of this civil suit.
